Hello all. Hope you’re keeping warm this Monday morning. Read along to find out what I ended up doing this past week.
Dell Laptop Repair:
I finally got around to fixing my old Dell Latitude Laptop. I’m using this laptop to run Kali Linux on it. The problem that I was having was low memory & failure to connect to wifi. For the memory issue, I replaced one 2 GB stick of RAM with two 8 GB sticks equaling 16 GB of RAM. To fix the network connection issue, I sought to purchase a new network card. Upon replacing those two components, my Kali-boot Dell works phenomenally now.
Web/Vuln Scan(s):
In addition to fixing my laptop, I also found the time to scan a crypto-based website in search of vulnerabilities. I did receive authorization, and it’s a community that I’m a part of. I found a few vulnerabilities relating to XSS. I also tested the vulnerabilities to see if they were easily exploitable. With the right payload & proper permissions, I found that it was exploitable. I wrote my research & sent it to a friend of mine who runs the website. I believe he shall be fixing it as I write. I cannot stress how important it is to secure your website!
Electronics:
I picked up two electronics starter kit to dabble in. In the future, I would like to create hardware devices that streamline security & recon. Similar to Hak5 or other vendors. I built my first “Hello World” project with an Arduino R3 & an LCD Display. I also learned about the schematics & wiring of the project. It didn’t take too long to assemble and the code was very short written in C++. I’m embarrassed to say that it was the potentiometer that took most of my time… (I was pushing on the nob… it was a twist knob). So being that the program was made in C++ & I’m familiar with the language, I added an extra function that moved the position of the cursor each iteration. Essentially, I just made the text on my display move.
Closing:
Thank you for reading. I wish I had more time to devote to my projects, but I have work to attend to. One day, I’ll be doing this full-time. It truly is a passion of mine to learn about electronics & technology. Until next time!
